A glassy entrance

Size does not matter to us, even a small project can significantly enhance the lives of those who use it.
A porch is a good case in point. It says so much about the house from the outside, but often looks like an alien structure, hiding the entrance!
An enclosed porch may be the smallest space in a house, but one of the most important functionally. Without it chaos can ensue! Boots, coats, and the paraphernalia of the outside world are homeless, hallways or living rooms being the dumping grounds. When a front door opens a significant amount of warm air is lost if not trapped by a porch.
This porch is an addition to a makeover we undertook, to update an older barn conversion. The owners were keen to keep the appearance of the existing front door, but did not want a visible box added that would have spoilt the look of the house.
By introducing a simple flat roof and glass wall panels, the space was enclosed to make a lobby large enough to remove boots, with a fitted bench and coat hooks that minimised the clutter. The whole house benefitted from this little glass enclosure, especially the now comfortable and clutter free hallway!
