The aspiration of the owners of this previously extended 18th century house was to create a light and airy, family friendly living area with kitchen, to connect visually with the elevated garden. The house was always cold and consisted of a series of rooms, dimly lit by small windows. The ground floor had a leaky conservatory, too hot in summer and too cold in winter, blocking a view of the garden from the principle rooms. The installed underfloor heating in the conservatory was too expensive to operate!

The solution was to create a glass fronted, contemporary living space under a wing shaped zinc roof, reaching up for a view of the sky. The old kitchen became a generous utility room and new ground floor cloakroom, the former dark and underused dining room was opened up and integrated into the new bright and airy family space, giving open views to the street and garden. The solid walls of the main house and older brick extension were insulated and clad in beautiful heat treated Ash, , maintenance-free and transforming the chilly bedrooms and bathroom into a warm and inviting family home.
